New community in the works for eastern Pierce County

Wesley Homes and Presbyterian Homes and Services have announced plans for Wesley at Tehaleh, a 401,000 square-feet senior-living campus in the eastern Pierce County community of Tehaleh near Bonney Lake.

The new community will be located on 16.8 acres of land surrounded with tree-lined walking and biking paths connecting the site to the larger Tehaleh development. With plans to break ground in September, Wesley at Tehaleh will include a lodge featuring 136 independent-living apartments, 42 catered-living apartments and 18 memory-care suites, and a brownstone offering an additional 32 independent-living apartments.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. at 17802 Cascadia Blvd. E.

“With the increasing number of families living at Tehaleh, there is a strong need for the housing and care services that we and Wesley provide,” said Jon Fletcher, vice president of Senior Housing Partners, the development arm of Presbyterian Homes and Services (PHS).

Wesley, a not-for-profit organization offering in-home care and hospice services in addition to communities, began collaborating with PHS in 2005, when Senior Housing Partners developed the Wesley Lea Hill community in Auburn. Additional projects followed, most recently the opening of Wesley Bradley Park in Puyallup.

When it opens, Wesley’s Tehaleh project will include a bistro and dining options, a chapel, a wellness center, a fitness room, a theater, a craft room, a library, a club room, a pickleball court and a pond. The project is being financed by Hamlin Capital Management, designed by Cuningham Group Architecture, and built by Ryan Companies.

PHS is based in St. Paul, Minn. The non-profit, faith-based organization has 46 affiliated senior communities in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. Senior Housing Partners has developed 74 projects and has been in the capital market for more than $3.1 billion of development.

Tehaleh is one of 20 U.S. communities owned in a partnership between North America Sekisui House (the U.S. business unit and a subsidiary of Sekisui House, Japan’s largest homebuilder), and Newland, the master developer of the Tehaleh.
