A place for seniors eyed for Key Peninsula

PenMet Parks is proposing two new recreational and community spots for the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula area—one of them a senior center.

Officials are evaluating three possible sites, including one on Wollochet Drive, for the center and a community aquatics facility. The senior center has been operating in temporary locations since the the local Boys and Girls Club building, which housed the center, was sold in 2019.

PenMet Parks (Peninsula Metropolitan Parks District) serves unincorporated areas of Pierce County west of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and east of the Purdy Bridge (excluding Gig Harbor).

The district’s commissioners plan to appoint citizens’ steering committees to help study the senior center and pool proposals, which are backed by various community groups. Summer 2023 is when the district may decide whether to go forward with the projects.
