60 downtown condos planned in Puyallup

Puyallup AOB Development, an entity owned by McBride-Cohen Management Group, has agreed to buy city-owned land that currently is a parking lot as one of the first major steps in the project. The site, located near the intersection of Pioneer Avenue and Third Street Southwest, is where city offices stood until 2009, when they were demolished and City Hall was relocated in a new building a block away.

McBride-Cohen is a real estate developer whose projects include Point Ruston on Tacoma’s waterfront.

The four-story condo building will include ground-level parking, including 20 spaces for the public, according to city officials and the developer. The public portion was requested by the city to be used partly by patrons of the nearby Puyallup Activity Center during senior activities there.

Mayor Julie Door predicted the condos, when occupied, “will invigorate our downtown business community. More people living downtown means more foot traffic to our shops and restaurants.”
