FAB (Fifty And Better) Trips and Tours, Metro Parks Tacoma’s newest recreation program offering, wants to remember those calm summer days.
One of the special excursions that took place last summer was a two nights and three days on Whidbey Island at Camp Casey that included tours of one of the bountiful local farms, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island with an up-close adventure on the flight line (with a special boarding of a P3 jet and a viewing of an F18 jet), a trip under Deception Pass Bridge on an open-air tour boat, fresh-baked pie from Whidbey Pies at Green Bank Farms followed by lunch and shopping in Langley, and a ferry ride back off the island.
The camp offered barracks-style rooms with twin beds and included a stunning view of the sunset looking out toward the Olympic Mountains.
The food was provided mess hall-style with a private chief and homestyle cooking for all meals. Games, stories and a campfire kept the campers going late into the evening. S’mores were shared on a starlit, warm summer evening.
A FAB spokeswoman said the program plans to offer the camp on an annual basis. Information about upcoming trips is available at www.metroparkstacoma.org/FAB or from Bonnie at 253-278-1475.
