Registration has opened for attending the Pierce County Alzheimer’s Caregiver Conference next month in Tacoma.
The event is scheduled for Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, located at 1315 N. Stevens.
Attendance is free but space is limited, organizers said. Registration, which began Aug. 1, is at piercecountywa.org/alz and 253-798-8787.
Complimentary adult day health is available by RSVPing to 253-627-9990.
Resource exhibitors and service providers will be on hand for the conference to provide information, support and encouragement for caregivers, family members and friends who are giving care in the home to Alzheimer’s patients.
The conference is sponsored by the Health Care Providers Council of Pierce County and the Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center, a division of county government. Additional information is available from the center at 253-798-4600 or 800-562-0332.
The conference will feature Ann Hedreen a caregiver and filmmaker who produced a feature-length documentary of her mother’s journey through Alzheimer’s. Also, sessions will focus on legal issues, caregiving tips and in-home help such as pet therapy, and support and community-based resources available from local service providers.
