Lutheran Community Services Northwest (LCSNW) and Alzheimer’s Association of Western/Central Washington are teaming to recruit and train facilitators for new support groups that can help caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s and other dementia.
Hundreds of caregivers are on waiting lists for the assistance, and the need is especially great in the Graham and South Hill areas, according to Pat Witt, program director of senor caregiver support for LCSNW.
Group facilitators help connect caregivers of persons resources. The ideal facilitator is a good listener and problem-solver, has a sense of humor, is comfortable with expressions of emotion, and can make a one-year commitment.
Facilitators receive free training and ongoing support from Alzheimer’s Association.
