Conference in Tukwila focuses on caregivers

Tukwila Community Center will be the site of a conference June 1 featuring all-day training for family and in-home care providers.
The keynote speaker will be Wendy Lustbader, an author and nationally known on caregiving and aging-related issues.
The conference hosts are the Aging and Long-Term Support Administration, Full Life Care, and Pierce County Community Connections/Aging and Disability Resources.
Caregivers can choose from 16 workshops and visit over 40 exhibitors with resource information about products and services that assist caregivers in Washington State. Caregivers will have the opportunity to meet with agency representatives and learn where and how they can get the help they need.
Workshop topics include:
• Care strategies for behaviors associated with dementia.
• Legal and financial issues in caregiving.
• Back injury prevention and reducing the risk of falls.
• Relaxation techniques.
• The change in role from spouse to caregiver.
The conference is intended for family caregivers, homecare workers and adult day services staff, adult family home or assisted-living workers, and social services or mental health professionals who work with family caregivers.
