The Peninsula Fall Prevention Coalition has scheduled Fall Prevention Week activities in the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula areas:
• Sept. 22, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Fall Prevention on the Key Peninsula at Key Peninsula Community Services, Food Bank and Senior Center, 17015 9th St. KPN, Lakebay. The annual play day will include indoor exercise, games and activities designed for folks over 60. Bring your own lunch if you’d like to socialize afterwards.
• Sept. 22, 11a.m.-1p.m. Fall Prevention Awareness event at Tom Taylor Family Y, 10550 Harbor Hill Dr. in Gig Harbor. The key to fall prevention is balance, which can be achieved through focused training, exercise and practice. Guests from MultiCare, Tacoma Trauma Center, Right At Home, Cottesmore and others will offer balance assessments, an obstacle course and a Biodex balance machine. • Sept. 23, 11a.m.-2 p.m. Fall Prevention Expo at Harbor Place at Cottesmore, 1016 29th St. NW. in Gig Harbor. Consult with professionals from Active Retirement and Senior Club of Gig Harbor, Purdy Costless Pharmacy, Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One, Gig Harbor Lions, Olympic Pharmacy, Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center, Sound Advice Audiology, Tacoma Trauma Center, Visiting Angels, Tom Taylor Family YMCA, Harbor Place and Cottesmore of Life Care. Free to attend. At 2:45 p.m., a SAIL exercise class will be held at Brookdale Senior Living at 3213 45th St. Ct. NW. in Gig Harbor.
• Sept. 25, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Parkinson’s exercise group and lunch at Harbor Place at Cottesmore, 1016 29th St. NW. in Gig Harbor. A specialty program for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. RSVPs are requested at 253-853-8466.
