Free seminars on effects of hearing loss

The Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center will host free seminars in Gig Harbor and Tacoma on hearing loss to help people of all ages understand the health issue, how to recognize it and how to find appropriate and effective solutions.
The seminar will be held on:
• May 13 at two times and locations: 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Milgard Family Hope Center, 8502 Skansie Ave. in Gig Harbor and 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Gig Harbor branch of Pierce County Library System, 4424 Point Fosdick Dr. NW.
• May 15 at two times and locations: 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Tacoma Public Library’s Fern Hill branch, 765 S. 84th St., and 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Sound View Building, 3611 S. D St. in Tacoma.
Information on symptoms and solutions will be presented by Harbor Audiology and Hearing Services and Aging and Disability Resource Center. People with hearing loss will hear about ways to keep lines of communication open with friends and family, while people whose hearing is still intact will better understand how to keep it that way for years to come, said Aaron Van Valkenburg, manager of Aging and Disability Resources.
“People of any age can have hearing loss. It’s sad that the quality of life is so impacted while there are available remedies for people of any age,” Van Valkenburg said.
