An interim Pierce County Library System branch will open in Lakewood to temporarily replace one that has been closed since June.
The interim site at Gravelly Lake Drive Southwest and Alpharetta Street Southwest will have a 7,000 to 10,000 square-feet modular building installed and owned by the library system (PCLS). The property will be leased.
A date for its opening hasn’t been set.
PCLS officials decided to close the original branch, which is a few blocks from the interim replacement, because it needed major repairs and upgrades that would cost an estimated $22 million to bring the 59-year-old building into compliance with safety and structural requirements. The PCLS Board of Trustees is deciding on a possible permanent replacement of the building.
