Pierce County’s day to stop falling

Experts note that falls can result in serious and costly injuries for older adults. Among the 128,000 Pierce County residents who are 65 or older, falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths, according to the state Department of Health. The good news is that most falls can be prevented and everyone can reduce their risk of having one.

That’s the backdrop for a Fall Prevention Awareness Day event scheduled for Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mel  Korum Family YMCA, located at 302 43rd Ave. SE. in Puyallup.

The free event, hosted by the Pierce County Fall Prevention Coalition, will include fall-prevention tips and presentations, exercise demonstrations, snacks and giveaways, and community resource vendors.
