Homeless vets are getting a roof over their heads

Its one-year anniversary has been marked by a King County program—the first of its type in the U.S.—that guides homeless military veterans into stable housing.

The program, which started in June 2021, is a joint venture of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the federal Housing and Urban Development’s housing vouchers for veterans, and the county’s veterans social services and Housing Authority. Since the program’s start, it has helped 75 veterans move into permanent housing. A total of 219 vets were referred to the program by community organizations.
