Tukwila Village, a new senior apartment complex by SHAG, has opened.

The six-acre campus, which initially will have two buildings and 193 units, is part of a collaboration with the City of Tukwila in the redevelopment of a section of land on Tukwila International Boulevard that also includes a new King County Library System building and a community plaza and cafe. Two more apartment buildings will be added by 2020, bringing the total number of units to 300-plus, according to SHAG officials.

• It’s the third-largest affordable housing complex for seniors in Washington and is part of a 20-year plan by the City of Tukwila to transform a formerly challenged area into a vibrant community.
• The Washington State Housing Finance Commission, the statewide agency overseeing the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, played a critical role in the project.
• With the opening of phase 1 of Tukwila Village, SHAG now operates 29 senior living communities in the Puget Sound region
