Seniors can attend the University of Puget Sound’s 43rd annual Spring Lu’au April 13 for a special price.
Anyone 65 and over can attend the show and dinner for $19, the show only for $9 or the dinner only for $12. Those prices are also being offered to children 17 and under and UPS campus members. The cost for all other guests is $23 for show and dinner, $12 for the show or $15 for the dinner. Tickets can be ordered in advance beginning March 25 (luautix@pugetsound.edu, 253-879-3419) and also will be available at the door.
Dinner will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. in Wheelock Student Center, and the stage show will be in Memorial Fieldhouse at 8. Music will be provided by the band Na Leo O Hawai`i. The show will include about a dozen Hawaiian, Tahitian, Samoan and Maori dances. The dinner will include kalua pig, huli huli chicken, lomi lomi salmon, macaroni salad, poi, chicken long rice, haupia, pineapple, and a vegan pineapple stir fry.
The traditional island food and colorful entertainment of this event attract nearly 1,000 people each year, making it one of the biggest public celebrations of Pacific Island culture in Washington. The theme selected by the Hui O Hawai`i student club for this year is Pūpūkahi I Holomua, which means “United to Move Forward.”
Lu`au co-chairkwoman Kariann Lee said the luau is “an opportunity to join together to share and participate in the cultural significance of our dance, and we invite you to enjoy this evening with us.”
