Swank in free screening of caregiver-themed movie

“You’re Not You,” starring Hilary Swank as an accomplished classical pianist with a debilitating disease and Emmy Rossum as a directionless young college student who becomes her close caregiver, will be offered May 11 in Tacoma by Pierce County Aging and Disability Resources as the latest film in its caregiving series.

“This film is the story of a young caregiver who ultimately becomes a fierce advocate and devoted companion to a woman with ALS” (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), said Aaron Van Valkenburg, manager of Aging and Disability Resources, a division of county government. “Not all caregiving relationships are as intense as portrayed here, but the film does provide insights into the need for communication and understanding that both people need to develop. The film is a good reminder that both caregiving and care-receiving aren’t easy.”

The free screening will be at the Grand Cinema, 606 Fawcett Ave. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., followed by the film at 10:45. Free tickets must be obtained in advance at www.pierceadrc.org (Click on News & Events) or by calling the Aging and Disability Resource Center at 253-798-4600.
